There are over 1500 grant programs offered by the 57 Federal grant-making agencies. This does not include private grants or venture capital. Government Grants fall into 21 categories defined by the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. If your business falls into these categories, funding is available.

Here is a brief picture on funding available:
Department of Defense- Improve the quality of housing for military personal. (private sector)
Department of Education- Provides Pell Grants to more than five million students.
Department of Agriculture- Expand international opportunities, support new development, expand alternative markets.
Department of Housing and Urban Development- Provides new units for the chronic homeless. (Private sector to build or refurbish)
Health and Human Services- Provides $204 million for abstinence-only education programs. Provides $188 million for education to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS, particularly with minority communities.
Department of The Interior- Protect historical and cultural properties through Preserve America Grants.
Department of Commerce- Expand trade opportunities from donuts to spacecraft. Improve climate and weather forecasting to benefit public safety.
Department of Rural Development- Increase economic opportunities and improve the quality of life in rural America.

GOVERNMENT LOANS

Small Businesses provide more then half of existing private sector jobs, two-thirds of new private sector jobs, and more than half of the United States' Gross Domestic Product. The Small Business Administration's (SBA's) mission is to promote small business development and entrepreneurship through business financing and technical assistance programs. SBA also works with other Federal Agencies to reduce regulatory and paperwork burdens on small business. This helps its citizens to achieve their goals and dreams.


This Administration is championing small business interest through tax cuts and guaranteed lending programs to assist entrepreneurship. This will provide financing to those who could not obtain affordable loans without a Federal Government Guarantee. SBA's Section 504 loan program will support additional $7.5 billion in guaranteed loans for fixed-rate financing of fixed assets such as land, equipment, and buildings. SBA will also supplement the capital of Small Business Investment Companies with $3 billion in guaranteed long-term loans for venture capital investments in small businesses.

The SBA provides billions in Government-backed small business loans with $28 billion set aside for the year 2007 which is the highest ever for the Small Business Administration.
